Freeing Corruptors Amid Corona Outbreaks : Humanity or Opportunity?

Lately, the Indonesian people have not only been shaken by a corona outbreak, but also by a proposal made by the government that is the release of corruptors as a step to break the distribution chain of the corona. This was conveyed by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly who proposed a revision of the Government Regulation (PP) No.99 of 2012 concerning the Requirements and Procedures for the Implementation of the Rights of Citizenship-Assisted Citizens. Certainly, this has invited polemic in the eyes of the community. This is considered unreasonable and indicate that the government is taking the opportunity in narrowness. I think, there are at least three reasons why the release of corruptors amid corona outbreaks is considered unreasonable.

First, giving freedom and clemency to corruptors amid corona outbreaks is considered to hurt justice. Reporting from www.cnnindonesia.com, based on ICW records, Donald said that since 2015-2019 Yasonna has tried to revise PP No. 99 of 2012 four times. The government proposes the release of corruptors on humanitarian grounds. While in Pancasila there is the principle of "keadilan sosial bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia". It looks like a system of "selective cutting. So why is the government more determined to accelerate the release of corruption? I assume that corruptors should not get reduced sentences.

Second, the treatment of detainees in general and special criminal cases is different. The condition of excess capacity only occurs in general criminal detention cells. While the conditions of special inmate cells, such as corruptors and terrorists, are separated so that physical distance is automatically carried out. So the government should not need to fear the spread of the corona virus in special detention cells.

Third, the possibility of transmission occurs in prisons when there are visitors who are positively infected by the corona and then enter prison to visit. So actually, what needs to be reduced is the schedule and the number of visitors who want to visit instead of people in custody.

Every policy of the officials, who will suffer the consequences is the people. Policy makers should prioritize logical thinking, listen to the voice of conscience, common sense. The problem of the nation can't be simplified by too easily discourse on media. Don't always make unsettling statements, right now people need a feeling of excitement in order to raise the body's immunity so that it is not easily infected by c-19. Let's focus on the substantial handling of the plague so it doesn't spread and the economic impact doesn't worsen.
